Chocolate art : drawing with chocolate

Wednesday, february 18th 2009

As the course continues I learn new techniques to do things with chocolate.  Today was all about making drawings with chocolate.  3 colours are enough to make amazing things, although that you can always use other colours to make the drawings more spectacular.

I made a drawing of the Greek Parthenon with dark chocolate and white background and also a beaver with dark, milk and white chocolate.  The possibilities are almost endless.  I have been wondering how this kind of things were done.  Now I know it.  Check the result.

The Parthenon sketched on white chocolate

Almost anything can be sketched with chocolate as long you have a non trembling hand.  Trembling hands give trembling results.

The next thing might be a chocolate printer.  I know this exists but it is mainly used for printing pictures on chocolate and not printing chocolate itself.  Check it out here.

Enjoy the weekend

Chocolate and art – the practical stuff

Wednesday, february 11th 2009

Last week we had some theoretical lessons about creating art pieces in chocolate.  This weeks lesson was hands on and practical.  Everybody knows that it’s Valentine’s day this saturday (february 14th 2009).  Because of this event we created a chocolate piece with this theme.

How do you start with a chocolate piece ?  First of all you need a stencil key set to cut out all pieces.  We use a fine cutter knife to cut out all pieces from a chocolate plate that is a few millimeter thick.  Once you have all pieces you have to glue them togheter, this is when the tricky part starts.  Glueing togheter is a bit delicate because if one pieces breaks the whole composition has to be made over again.

Once all has been glued togheter, the piece is sprayed with cocoabutter and chocolate to make it more realistic with shades.  A bit of colour can be used to give it the finishing touch.

This is the result :

With a bit of luck, my girlfriends valentine day will be great.

Enjoy
