Schools out

Wednesday, june 25th 2008

Today was the final test of this year.  The assignment was to create 4 pieces of fruit, make 1 figure with head and belly in 2 pieces and decorate it with a flower.  I passed the test with a 75%.   Unfortunately I was so enthousiast that I already ate the things I made so no pictures available this time.

Wednesday, july 1st 2008 I can pickup my official paper that I passed the first year.  Hooray.

More news will follow.

Factory visit Callebaut and Belcolade

Monday, june 23rd 2008

Today I did a visit at 2 chocolate factories with the collegues from the chocolate lessons.  In the morning I went to Callebaut in Wieze for a very interesting visit.  It was all about how chocolate is being produced.  A lady walked us around in the factory and gave an interesting explanation of the whole production process.  After the visit there was sandwiches for everybody.

In the afternoon I visited another chocolate factory, now it was Belcolade in Erembodegem which is actually the competitor of Callebaut.  There was a visit in the factory and production process.  Meanwhile Stef Aerts explained and prepared 2 recipes for pralines, one with anis and the other one with creme brullee.  Excellent !

To finish the day there was a drink in Het Chocoladehuis in Aalst.  This is an artisanal creator of chocolates who has a production area where you can see the whole production process.

At the end, a very interesting day.  It’s worth the time.  Thanks to Xavier Desmit for organising this day and Guido Hostens for attending.

Last lesson with marzipan

Wednesday, june 18th 2008

Today was the last lesson creating marzipan figures and things.  It has been very interesting since there are almost unlimited possibilities with marzipan for all kind of events.

I would like to thank Mr. D. Capon for his patience learning me this variety of techniques to create amazing things.  I am sure that I will use this information in the future to create astonishing things.  Also thanks for the time we spent after the lessons, they were surely interesting.  See what follows.

Kaars Candle

Winnie Winnie the Pooh

Heart 1 Heart 2 Heart lying down

Baby 1 Baby 2 Baby in coal

Fles 1 Fles 2 Fles 3

Fles 4 Bottle with little guy crawling

Gang of marzipan Gang of marzipan figures

I hope you enjoyed the lessons and pictures.  Next week there is the final test for this module.  I hope to get enough points so I can continue my trip through the world of chocolate and marzipan.

Thanks

Alain

“Everything is a creating process that starts from a basic substance”. I heard this sentence in a lecture from Wallace D. Wattles who noted it down in 1910. He might be right.

More figures have been made since I am moving to the last lessons. This time there are little jackets, hands and other goodies to be detected.

Manneke Green man 2 Wondering man

Elephant Elephant

Pete Pete 2 Pete

Saint Nicolas Saint Nicolas 2 Saint Nicolas

Some of the figures do not really fit into the timeline but who cares, they get eaten anyway. Cheerz !!
